# Emil Design Engineering: interactions that acknowledge the lead

## Frequency and purpose decisions

Work filters are frequent actions: they change immediately, without animation. Keyboard-initiated actions never animate. The review preparation is occasional: it remains an inline disclosure rather than an unnecessary modal. Inspecting the blocker changes a stable detail panel, avoiding layout jumps. Buttons use 150ms press feedback and a restrained scale(.97). Pointer-triggered panel changes use 180ms opacity/transform transitions, with no keyframes and no transition: all. Reduced motion disables movement; touch hover is gated to fine pointers.

## Source-required review table

| Before | After | Why |
| ------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------- |
| Tiny buttons with no pressed response | 44px minimum controls with scale(.97) press feedback | Immediate acknowledgement |
| Generic actions change a distant note | Prepare review opens a named inline summary with focus return | Feedback stays understandable |
| Blocker reason not visible | Select Mobile navigation to inspect Awaiting content | Clear detail without a navigation jump |
| Only a static successful page | All / Needs attention filters, empty-safe list and selected-detail state | A usable local interaction cycle |
| No keyboard motion policy | Keyboard changes are immediate and retain logical focus | Repeated actions remain fast |

## Implementation

This is a native HTML/CSS/JS adaptation, using the source's CSS-transition and native-control guidance. No React, Motion, Sonner or Vaul package is claimed. Tabs are ordinary filter buttons with aria-pressed because they filter one shared list rather than activate distinct tab panels. Details stay in a reserved panel; the user can switch records repeatedly without waiting. Pointer press effects do not shift layout.

All source facts remain initial truth. Selected-state text is local and review preparation does not send anything. No physical-device testing or performance measurement is claimed.

## Audit correction — 2026-10-15

Corrected an invalid hover media query that the browser parsed as `not all`. Keyboard mode now also disables root smooth scrolling, covering the Prepare review and View all tasks actions. The original source pin and execution date remain unchanged; these are subsequent implementation repairs.

## Source-guided colour refinement — 2026-10-21

Re-read the pinned source at `e8a175de22ae1e49370fc144c1f3bb9aeedf988d`, especially **State indication**, **Cohesion matters**, **Buttons must feel responsive**, and the keyboard, touch and reduced-motion guidance. The exact teal palette is an implementation choice. It makes the selected state and the next action visible while preserving the source-guided frequency decisions.

Palette: ink `#203936`, secondary text `#536b66`, action teal `#086c63`, selection tint `#e4f3ed`, inspector tint `#eaf5f1`, and a restrained amber blocker label `#814a16` on `#fcf0db`.

| Before | After | Why |
| --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| The active filter was white in a light gray track; selection used a faint blue-gray row | Filled teal active filter and a pale teal selected row with a solid leading edge | Distinguishes both kinds of selection using background, edge and existing `aria-pressed` state |
| A white outlined inspector had little visual connection to its selected task | A tinted teal inspector with a darker top edge, label and metadata | Connects the list choice to its reserved detail area without moving content |
| A charcoal primary action and blue review label introduced separate visual cues | Teal action, review status and detail cues share a controlled palette | Gives the interface a coherent identity while retaining amber and explicit text for the blocker |

The 2026-10-15 hover-query and keyboard-scroll repairs remain intact. Filters stay immediate; keyboard actions still disable transitions and smooth scrolling; pointer detail changes retain their 180ms opacity/transform transition. Selected rows retain their accent when hovered. Reduced motion now also suppresses the existing press scale. All content and local interaction code remain unchanged, including preparation focus return and the stable inspector. The source pin, original prompt and 2026-10-14 execution record are preserved.

Limitation: the source does not mandate these colours. This refinement demonstrates a cohesive state system; it does not claim a measured usability or performance improvement, physical-device verification, or use of the author's animation packages. No new animation, dependency, font service or gradient was introduced.
